Chemical Peels

Chemical Peels in Vancouver, BC

Your skin is your first line of defense. Every day, without fail, it protects you from UV rays, pollutants, allergens, chemicals, and the harsh seasons. Over the years, our skin will begin to show signs of its hard work in the form of sun damage, uneven skin tone, rosacea, rough skin or uneven skin texture. If your skin needs a makeover, a chemical peel with Dr. Naz in Vancouver may be your ideal solution — one of today’s most trusted skin rejuvenation treatments and cosmetic treatment options for refreshing your skin’s appearance.

Chemical peels are a favorite, non-invasive skin treatment in the aesthetic industry for their ability to gently remove dead skin cells and refine the skin’s surface while nurturing the underlying tissue to encourage new skin and glow-from-within results.

Chemical peels are a favorite, non-invasive skin treatment in the aesthetic industry for their ability to gently remove dead skin cells and refine the skin’s surface while nurturing the underlying tissue to encourage new skin and glow-from-within results. By applying a chemical solution to the treated area, chemical peels exfoliate the outer layers of the skin (layers of skin) to improve skin texture, brighten skin tone, and support skin rejuvenation.

What Is a Signature Chemical Peel?

There are two forms of skin exfoliation—physical and chemical. Physical exfoliation usually involves some type of material, such as beads, cloth, or grit within a product, applied to the skin. Chemical exfoliation involves ingredients like glycolic acid (an alpha hydroxy acid) or salicylic acid that break down dead skin cells and allow them to fall away naturally.

Art of Lines MD Signature Chemical Peel uses chemical exfoliation that gently removes a thin layer of dead skin cells, battles acne-causing bacteria, and promotes cellular renewal to revitalize your complexion. This cosmetic treatment can be customized for different skin types and specific skin concerns, including uneven skin tone, rough skin, and skin imperfections. This medical-grade treatment can be used to treat a variety of skin concerns, including:

  • Acne (acne treatment)
  • Wrinkles and fine lines (fine lines, fine wrinkles)
  • Hyperpigmentation (skin pigment, skin discoloration)
  • Rosacea
  • Scarring (surgical scars in select cases)
  • Sun damage

For patients with acne scars or deep scars, a peel plan may include multiple treatments or combination care with laser treatment or laser resurfacing, depending on the depth of the scars and skin conditions.

What Are the Benefits of a Chemical Peel?

Our Signature Chemical Peel provides numerous benefits to your skin, including:

  • Diminish the appearance of skin discoloration linked to sun damage
  • Improves skin texture by unclogging blocked pores and refining overall skin texture
  • Accelerates the skin’s innate renewal process, supporting skin rejuvenation and addressing the natural aging process
  • Minimizes the visibility of wrinkles and fine lines while promoting comprehensive skin rejuvenation treatments
  • Boosts hydration levels, resulting in a more supple and plump skin (hyaluronic acid-supportive skincare may be recommended post-peel)
  • Helps smooth fine lines and smooth lines in common areas like the eye area (crow’s feet)
  • Supports a brighter, more radiant skin look and healthier skin appearance

Depending on peel depth, chemical peels can also help stimulate collagen production by encouraging renewal in deeper layers over time, supporting collagen production and healthier collagen and elastin fibers for youthful skin.

The Signature Chemical Peel Process

Step One: Prep Skin

Before receiving your signature peel, your skin will be thoroughly cleansed to remove any impurities, bacteria, oils, skincare, and makeup. Using an alcohol-soaked gauze pad, your technician will ensure a clean surface free from oily residue, allowing the chemical peel to penetrate the skin’s surface.

Step Two: Protection

Before beginning your Signature Chemical Peel, your technician will apply a protective balm to sensitive areas and provide you with eye protection. We take care to protect surrounding skin during treatment and focus the chemical solution on the treatment area.

Step Three: Apply Peel Solution

Our technician will use a brush to apply the peel solution (chemical solution). You may feel some slight tingling as the peel gently exfoliates your skin, which is completely normal and is well-tolerated by most patients. If, at any point, it becomes too tingly or itchy, your technician can apply a fan to help calm the sensation for the duration of your treatment. This may be a light peel (light chemical peel) for superficial peels or a stronger formula for a medium peel (medium chemical peel) or deep chemical peel, depending on skin type and goals.

Step Four: Reaction Time

The peel solution will remain on your skin for about five minutes; however, this time may be adjusted based on your skin’s reaction and the concentration used. Your technician will monitor you closely for any signs of reaction.

Step Five: Neutralizing the Solution

To halt the exfoliation process, the technician will gently rinse the treated area with a cold-water compress, instantly soothing the skin.

Step 6: Post Peel

To finish, higher-performance anti-aging products will be applied to rehydrate the skin. At this point, your technician will discuss recovery expectations and care and any personalized recommendations for your skincare routine. Post-care may include sun protection guidance and instructions to avoid direct sun exposure (sun exposure / direct sun exposure) while treated skin heals.

What Is Recovery Like from a Chemical Peel?

The recovery after a chemical peel will depend on how your skin reacts to the chemical solution and the depth of your Signature Chemical Peel. Each person reacts differently to chemical peels, depending on their skin type and skin conditions.

A common recovery after a chemical peel may look like this:

  • First few hours—Your treated skin will have some redness, tingling, or slight burning sensations that are similar to a sunburn.
  • First few days—Some patients will notice some drying, irritation, and mild swelling in sensitive areas, such as around the eyes and mouth.
  • Two to three days—Your skin may look dry and flaky at this point, and discoloration spots may be more noticeable.
  • Three to four days—Your skin may look slightly tanner or darker at this point (darker skin tones may be more prone to pigmentation changes). This is an essential part of the exfoliation process. A thin top layer of skin is beginning to lift and preparing to shed away to reveal new skin underneath.
  • Five to seven days—All side effects should begin to subside, and your skin should start looking and feeling normal.
  • One to two weeks—You’ll start to see healthy, new skin forming. You may also notice some redness that may last for up to a month. Be consistent when applying moisturizer, do your best to stay out of the sun, and never skip sunscreen application. Sun protection is essential—avoid sun exposure while skin heals.

If you have a history of cold sores, let us know before your peel. In some cases, antiviral medication is recommended to reduce the risk of flare-ups around the mouth after chemical peels.

North Vancouver Chemical Peels - FAQs

Chemical peels work by applying a solution that exfoliates the outer layers of the skin, promoting cell turnover and revealing smoother, more even-toned skin underneath. This kind of exfoliation is done through the use of chemicals such as glycolic acid (an alpha hydroxy acid) or salicylic acid, which break down dead skin cells naturally. By removing damaged outer layers, skin heals and produces new skin for a refreshed skin’s appearance.

Yes, chemical peels can treat acne and mild to moderate acne scars by unclogging pores, reducing oil, and exfoliating dead skin cells. For severe acne scars, deep scars, or surgical scars, your plan may include multiple treatments or combination care like laser resurfacing or laser treatment, depending on your skin conditions.

Yes, chemical peels can be combined with treatments like microneedling, laser resurfacing, or other skin resurfacing options for enhanced results. During your consultation, Dr. Naz can help you create a treatment plan based on your skin goals. Combining skin rejuvenation treatments can improve skin texture, skin tone, and overall skin resurfacing outcomes.

Results can last several weeks to months, depending on the type of peel and your skincare routine. Regular maintenance treatments and good skincare habits can prolong the benefits. Be sure to follow Dr. Naz’s instructions for care after treatment while consistently moisturizing and applying sunscreen when going outside. Sun protection and avoiding sun exposure are key to protecting treated skin.

Yes, chemical peels can be applied to the neck, chest, hands, and even the back to improve skin texture, tone, and overall appearance in these areas.

Recovery time varies depending on the depth of the peel. In the case of Art of Lines MD Signature Chemical Peel, it will take about a week for the initial side effects to subside and then up to a month for the redness to fade. Treated skin may feel tight or dry as outer layers shed and new skin forms.

Deep peels, like the kind Dr. Naz uses, are typically spaced out by several months. For less severe skin damage, one or two treatments may be all you need; those looking for a more comprehensive cleanse may need several treatments for the results they’re looking for. Dr. Naz will discuss with you what aesthetic goals you have in mind and help customize your treatments accordingly.

Yes, but the type of peel and concentration of ingredients must be carefully selected to minimize the risk of hyperpigmentation. Dr. Naz will evaluate your skin type and recommend the most appropriate peel. Darker skin tones require careful planning for skin resurfacing methods to protect surrounding skin and avoid pigment shifts.
